Supermodel Karlie Kloss who wants to return to college at 23 is an inspiration to all of us. Kloss began the #KodewithKarlie scholarship foundation for young girls in high school. As a way to get more women into the tech, Kloss's program gifts 20 women with free tuition to Flatiron Pre-College Academy's Introduction to Software Engineering course. Each course is two weeks long for a full-time learning program that will teach these girls how to make apps similar to Twitter.
Unlike many celebrities today who are starting fashion lines, Kloss wants to remain a role model for young women. Her scholarship allows girls to enter into the tech world at a young age to fast track career in technology -- an experience people like myself would love to have. As we know, there are new technological advances every week. With this expansion women are heavily needed to put their own spin and perspectives on every device that comes out. From a factual point of view maybe you will get a better understanding of the importance of women expanding more into computer science, technology and engineering.
Here are the facts:
Only 12% of computer science degrees go to women
The field of technology is constantly expanding and so is the employment rate
Learning how to code is only the first step to expanding your experience
